Repairing Dents and Scratches in a Varnish Finish

  • Polyurethane varnish is tough and flexible. It will follow a dent and resist a scratch.
  • If the finish is scratched through, you can make it less apparent and restore some protection with Minwax Wood Finish Stain Marker, or a similar touch up product carried by your hardware store. Choose a color slightly darker, if not a match, for your tabletop.
  • For major repairs, the finish must be professionally stripped and replaced.
